Newham College – Lecture Theatre

Brief

Benison Associates were asked to provide scheme proposals to and design and project manage the existing college Lecture Theatre to provide a stylish modern comfortable and adaptable learning space to overcome existing unwanted noise reverberation and light penetration from adjacent windows during the use of overhead projection equipment.

Design Specification

In order to achieve the above client brief we specified timber laminated paneling incorporating removable panels for adapting or updating I.T installations, an acoustic ceiling, electronic black out blinds, sensor controlled lighting with stylish lecture theatre seating and fitted carpets.

Building Regulations Approval was achieved via a Plans Approval route and an Approved Building Control Inspector.

Procurement Route

It was agreed that the proposed works would be procured under a traditional procurement route. The works were subsequently tendered to three contractors and delivered under a standard JCT Minor Building Works Contract.

General

A contractor was appointed and the proposed works were commenced and completed within budget and to the client’s satisfaction over a 4 week contract duration period.
